Community Happenings &

Workshops

We are dedicated to providing instructional seminars and workshops on topics related to circus, theatre and performance creation as a mean to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western Canadian performing art communities.

Our workshops focus on virtuosity, storytelling, and collaboration as a means to develop the skills of both emerging and established artists and to give back to our community.

Past Workshops

Going To the Fear

Going to the Fear is a three-week intensive movement laboratory where participants learn different ground based acrobatic movements (i.e handstands, forward rolls, etc.) in order to explore how fear can inform the body and act as an entry point into character and story development.

With a mixture of acrobatic and devised theatre techniques, this intensive uses insight from different movement practitioners such as Jerzy Grotowski, Anne Bogart and Janet Adler in order to answer questions such as:

  • How can we communicate a thought, emotion or story using the body?
  • What makes a movement virtuosic and how can it be performed safely through impulse?
  • How does the fear of executing an acrobatic movement unlock emotions in the body?

Get Off Your A$$ Creation Workshop

The reality is, making art is hard and making good art is even harder. But the first step to building your performance repertoire is beginning.

The Get Off You're A$$ Creation Workshop is based on three steps of development: Generation, Application, and Presentation. Through the use of movement, text, and character development, this intensive will give you a wide variety of performance creation techniques to help build your very own masterpiece.

Geared towards professional and emerging artists from diverse backgrounds including, but not limited to visual art, theatre, dance, circus and clown.

Discovering Clown through Impulse

Using specific movement and improvisational exercises the body will become the genesis for character and story development. Throughout this workshop the rules of clown emerge giving participants a fundamental understanding of clown, and a deeper awareness of their own performance and creation skills.
